St. Kizito Primary School

Meeting a Need.

Father Katende was approached by many families from the village of Pakanyi, where he is now stationed as a priest at St. Paul’s, who desired a quality school which their children could safely attend. For small children, the long walks to school are simply infeasible or too dangerous. DBCF vowed to build a school and with the help of donors, completed a four-classroom wood building, metal-roofed, with restroom facilities for pre-K to 3rd year students. A nice array of playground equipment was added to the school which brought much joy to the children and families. In 2023/24, we undertook a capital campaign with 10,000 USD in matching funds to build an additional structure of brick with four more classrooms, modern restroom facilities and sinks, as well as a staff room so that families can be confident to have full schooling through primary school for their children. As of our opening of these classrooms in February, we doubled our student body to 112 students.

DBCF subsidizes the school which is unable to cover its costs to educate and feed the children through tuition alone. All gifts are greatly appreciated! Special thanks to our steadfast and generous individual donors and to Seton LaSalle High School, Pittsburgh, PA, which funded the purchase of many of our desks and blackboards for the first phase of the school!

Named for the youngest of the Ugandan Martyrs, St.Kizito School strives to nurture the minds, hearts, bodies, and souls of all the children who come. St. Kizito, Ora pro Nobis!
